Contact lens exams and fittings
A contact lens exam is a separate service from a standard eye exam because contacts sit directly on the eye all day. During a fitting, we measure the curvature of your cornea, evaluate how a lens moves and centers, and check the health of the front surface of your eye. We start you in trial lenses so you can experience the fit in real conditions, then bring you back for follow-up to confirm the lenses are comfortable, stable, and giving you clear vision before we finalize your prescription. If you also need an updated glasses prescription or a full health check, we can pair your fitting with a comprehensive eye exam.

Some eyes need more than an off-the-shelf lens, and that is where our specialty fitting experience matters. We fit scleral lenses, which vault over the cornea and rest on the white of the eye, as well as lenses designed for keratoconus. If you have dry eyes or you have been told in the past that you cannot wear contacts, it is often worth a fresh evaluation, because these designs can make comfortable wear possible when conventional lenses could not. We begin by talking through how you want to use your contacts and any comfort issues you have had before. From there we take corneal measurements, review the health of your eyes, and select trial lenses to try in the office. If you are new to contacts, we will show you how to insert, remove, and care for them. A short follow-up lets us confirm everything is working before you settle into your regular supply. Do I need a separate appointment for a contact lens exam?
A contact lens fitting includes steps a standard eye exam does not, such as corneal measurements and a fit evaluation with trial lenses. It can often be added to your visit, so let us know when you schedule that you want to wear contacts and we will plan the time for it.
Can I wear contacts if I have astigmatism?
Very often, yes. Toric lenses are made to correct astigmatism, and multifocal designs can address astigmatism and presbyopia together for many patients. We confirm the right option during your fitting.
I was told I'm hard to fit — can you still help?
Frequently, yes. Scleral lenses, keratoconus designs, and options for dry eyes give us more tools than a basic soft lens. We would evaluate your eyes and talk through what is realistic for your situation.
Can children wear contact lenses?
