A comprehensive eye exam in Riverside is the foundation of good eye care, and at Visionaire Optometry Spa we provide it for patients of all ages. Dr. Sana Shakil, OD, and our team look at far more than how clearly you can read a chart. A complete exam checks how your eyes work together, measures your prescription, and evaluates the overall health of your eyes so that concerns can be caught early, often before you notice any symptoms.

Why choose us

What a comprehensive eye exam includes

Every visit is tailored to you, but a thorough exam generally covers several areas of vision and eye health:

  • Vision and refraction to determine your clearest, most comfortable prescription for glasses.
  • Eye alignment and binocular vision to see how well your eyes coordinate and focus together.
  • Eye-pressure testing, an important measurement in screening for glaucoma.
  • Evaluation of retinal and overall eye health, including the structures at the front and back of the eye.
  • Screening for eye conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, macular changes, and diabetic eye disease.

Because many eye conditions develop gradually and without pain, these checks are designed to detect subtle changes over time. If we notice something that needs closer attention, we will talk it through with you and recommend clear next steps.

What to expect at your visit

Our spa-inspired setting is meant to make eye care feel calm and unhurried. From the moment you arrive, our goal is a relaxed, welcoming experience rather than a rushed appointment. Using modern testing, Dr. Shakil reviews your vision, your eye health, and any symptoms or questions you bring in.

A typical visit begins with a few preliminary measurements, moves into the refraction that fine-tunes your prescription, and finishes with an evaluation of your eye health and a conversation about the results. Exams are suitable for adults and children, and we take time to explain what we see in plain language. For younger patients, you can also learn more about our children's eye exams.

Insurance and scheduling

We accept most major vision and medical plans, including VSP, EyeMed, and Medicare, and our team is happy to help you understand your coverage before your appointment. If you would like to spread out the cost of eyewear or care, financing is available through Cherry and CareCredit.

We know weekday appointments are not always easy to fit in, so we offer limited Saturday morning appointments, 1 to 2 times a month. We welcome patients from Riverside and the surrounding communities, including Orangecrest, Mission Grove, Woodcrest, Moreno Valley, and Corona.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should adults get an eye exam?

For many healthy adults, we recommend an eye exam every year. If you wear glasses or contacts, have a condition such as diabetes, or have a family history of eye disease, Dr. Shakil may recommend more frequent visits. We will suggest a schedule that fits your individual needs.

What's the difference between a vision screening and a comprehensive exam?

A vision screening is a brief check, often just a chart reading, that can flag an obvious problem but is not a full evaluation. A comprehensive exam is far more thorough. It measures your prescription, checks how your eyes work together, tests eye pressure, and evaluates your eye health, which a simple screening cannot do.

Do you screen for eye disease?

Yes. A comprehensive exam includes screening for conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, macular changes, and diabetic eye disease. Catching these changes early gives you and Dr. Shakil more options, so regular exams matter even when your vision seems fine.

Is a contact lens fitting included in a standard exam?

No, a contact lens exam and fitting is a separate service from a standard comprehensive exam, because it involves additional measurements and lens evaluation. If you are interested in contacts, you can learn more about our contact lens exams and fittings or mention it when you schedule.
